Hello, old friend!

I’m super excited to have finally gotten my passport back in hand. I feel naked without it!

I was really worried that I wouldn’t get it back in time for my December 3rd trip but I got it back in less than 30 days, start-to-finish, even though the official time to receive my passport was listed as 10-12 weeks on the US Passport Office website.

If you are traveling soon and need your passport back quickly, it can be done.

Follow these steps:

✈️Mail your renewal or go to your in-person appointment. Choose expedited service. (Some offices are not offering expedited service for in-person applications. If this happens, choose regular service and then follow the steps below. The passport office will call you after you contact your senator and you will pay for expedited service then.)
✈️Wait and few days and go to https://passportstatus.state.gov/ to check the status of your application. Sign up for email notifications.
✈️Once the application is listed as “In Process,” go to the website of one of your US Senators and request assistance with your passport. They will have a tab on their site for assistance with government offices. They will have you fill out a few forms and then they will intercede.

When I sent my passport in for renewal, expedited service wasn’t available. After contacting my senator’s office, the passport office called me. I paid $77 for expedited service and overnight mail. I received my passport two days after speaking to the rep.

As with anything, there is no guarantee that you will receive your passport in time for your trip, but this method has worked really well for the majority of folks who try it.
